Test results look incomplete: What are the possible causes?

If your penetration test results seem incomplete or fewer vulnerabilities were identified than expected, there are several common factors that could affect the test coverage.

Authentication wasn’t configured correctly

If your application requires users to log in, ensure that authenticated testing has been configured correctly before starting the test. Without successful authentication, Beagle Security may only be able to assess publicly accessible pages.

The application wasn’t fully accessible

Verify that the target application was online and accessible throughout the test. If parts of the application were unavailable during the test, they may not have been crawled or tested.

The test configuration needs to be reviewed

Review your test configuration to ensure it matches your testing requirements. For example, verify that the correct application was selected and that any required authentication or test settings were configured before the test started.

Parts of the application require user interaction

Some areas of modern web applications are only accessible after specific user actions, such as navigating through multiple pages, clicking buttons, or completing multi-step workflows. If these interactions aren’t performed during the test, those areas may not be crawled or tested.

If your application relies on these workflows, consider using the Scenario recording feature. This allows Beagle Security to replay the required user interactions during the test, helping it reach and assess parts of the application that aren’t accessible through standard crawling alone.

The test is still running

Large or complex applications can take longer to complete, so before reviewing the results, confirm that the penetration test has finished successfully.

Still not seeing the expected results?

If you’ve reviewed the items above and believe important parts of your application weren’t tested, reach out to us through the live chat available within the Beagle Security application or email us at support@beaglesecurity.com. Providing details about your application, authentication method, and the affected areas will help the team investigate the issue more efficiently.
